Why Lines Fail

Why Do Warehouse Floor Lines Fail in Turning Zones?

Warehouse markings rarely wear evenly. They fail where forklifts pivot, where pallets drag and where people cut corners.

Forklift wheel scuff

Loaded forklifts can weigh more than 10,000 lb. Polyurethane wheels pivoting on a painted line grind it off in months, starting at every intersection.

Poor surface prep

Paint on dusty or sealed concrete peels in sheets. Shot blasting or grinding to a CSP-2 profile gives the coating something to grip.

Wrong material for the zone

Single-coat floor paint is fine along racking. It is the wrong choice for loading approaches, turning zones and crossings that see constant traffic.

Our fix: We prep the slab properly, use durable floor paint or two-component epoxy where wear is light, and switch to hot-applied thermoplastic or MMA in the zones that take the abuse.

What Does Warehouse Line Painting Cover?

Warehouse line painting in Toronto means turning a busy concrete floor into a readable traffic system. We mark forklift traffic lanes, pedestrian walkways and crossings, stop bars, pallet staging lanes, rack-end protection zones, hazard zebra striping, fire equipment keep-clear boxes and loading door approaches. Everything follows the OSHA warehouse spec and colour conventions most GTA facilities use for their WSIB and Ministry of Labour programs, including OSHA 1910.22 walking-working surface principles.

A good layout starts with your operation, not with paint. We walk the floor with your operations or safety lead, trace how pallets and people actually move, and design lanes to fit your fleet’s turning radius and your racking layout.

Which Material Goes Where?

  • Durable floor paint along racking, staging lanes and low-traffic walkways. Fast and economical at $3-$7 per linear foot.
  • Two-component epoxy where you want a thicker, chemical-resistant line on a properly prepared slab.
  • Hot-applied thermoplastic for forklift lanes, turning zones and crossing points at $8-$15 per linear foot. It lasts 3-5 years against wheel scuff.
  • Methyl methacrylate (MMA) for cold, high-wear areas where we need a fast cure and strong bond.

Surface prep decides how long any of these last. Dusty, sealed or oily concrete gets shot blasted or ground to a CSP-2 profile where needed, then primed. That step is quoted openly, never hidden.

How Do We Work Around Your Shifts?

A 10,000 sq ft thermoplastic layout takes 2-3 days. We never need the whole building at once. Work is phased aisle by aisle or zone by zone across night and weekend shifts. Receiving and shipping keep running, and each zone reopens as soon as it cures.

Most warehouse jobs include at least one of these: forklift lane safety marking for dedicated traffic lanes, loading dock marking for trailer approaches and staging, and thermoplastic line marking for the heaviest-wear zones.

As a specialist Toronto line painting company, we mark warehouses and distribution centres across the GTA, with weekly crews in Scarborough and Brampton, plus Concord, Meadowvale and Bramalea industrial parks. See our Scarborough thermoplastic project or request a written per-foot quote.

How It Works

How Does Our Warehouse Line Painting Process Work?

Four steps from first call to reopened lot, with nothing added after the quote.

  1. STEP 01

    Floor walk and layout plan

We walk the floor with your operations or safety lead, mark traffic flow, crossing points and hazard zones, then send a written per-linear-foot quote.

  2. STEP 02

    Zone-by-zone schedule

Work is phased by aisle or zone around night and weekend shifts so receiving and shipping keep moving.

  3. STEP 03

    Prep the concrete

Sweep, degrease and profile the slab where needed. Sealed or polished floors get the right primer before marking.

  4. STEP 04

    Mark, cure and hand over

Lanes, walkways, stop bars and zebra zones go down to the plan. You get a marked-up layout for your WSIB and Ministry of Labour files.

Our phone is answered 24/7 by someone who knows pavement marking.

How much does warehouse line painting cost in Toronto?

Warehouse floor marking in paint runs $3-$7 per linear foot. Thermoplastic forklift lanes run $8-$15 per linear foot. Price depends on surface prep, line width, colours and how the work has to be phased around your shifts. You get a written per-linear-foot quote.

What colours should warehouse floor markings be?

Most GTA facilities follow a common colour scheme: yellow for traffic lanes and aisles, white for storage and equipment, red for fire equipment and hazards, green for safety stations, and black and white or red and white stripes for areas to keep clear. We match your existing 5S or safety program.

Do you need to shut down the warehouse?

No. We phase work zone by zone around night and weekend shifts. A 10,000 sq ft thermoplastic layout takes 2-3 days without a full shutdown.

Is thermoplastic worth it inside a warehouse?

In turning zones, loading approaches and forklift lanes, usually yes. It lasts 3-5 years against wheel scuff where single-coat floor paint can fail in months. Along racking and low-traffic areas, floor paint or epoxy is enough.

Will the markings help with WSIB and Ministry of Labour inspections?

Clear, maintained floor markings support your health and safety program by separating people and equipment. We provide a marked-up layout plan for your records. Your safety lead still owns the program; we make the floor match it.

Can you mark sealed or polished concrete?

Yes, with the right prep. Sealed and polished slabs need grinding or a compatible primer so the coating bonds. We test adhesion on a small area before marking the full floor.

How long before forklifts can drive on new lines?

Thermoplastic is ready for traffic within minutes of cooling. Fast-dry floor paint is ready in about an hour. Two-component epoxy needs longer, typically overnight, which we schedule around.

Do you provide a COI for our landlord or property manager?

Yes. We carry $2M commercial liability and WSIB coverage and deliver your certificate within one business day.
